Welcome to Pop Warner Cheer!

Dear Scripps Ranch Pop Warner Cheer Parents:

We are very excited to enter our 5th season and to be the newest member of the Pop Warner Palomar Conference! My name is Jennifer Almond and I am the 2010 Scripps Ranch Pop Warner Cheer Director. We are looking forward to a fun-filled season cheering for the Pop Warner football teams this fall. When you sign up, you are making a commitment to becoming part of a growing tradition here in Scripps Ranch. Please hold on to this information sheet as you will need to reference it later in the season.

MANDATORY CHEER CONDITIONING CAMP:  Cheer Camp begins Monday, August 2nd for 2 weeks. This is a 20 hour conditioning period. Please schedule family vacations around this time period. Any child missing any portion of the 20 hours of conditioning will need to make up that time when regular practice begins.  We strongly recommend that your child begin to prepare for this at least one month prior to the start date with jogging, sit ups and push ups. The conditioning camp will take place at our practice fields and will run concurrent with football conditioning and all cheer will practices will be held at the SRHS baseball field.

Conditioning:

  • Week 1: Monday – Thursday, August 2–5 | 5:00-7:30 pm
  • Week 2: Monday – Thursday, August 9–12 | 5:00-7:30 pm

PRACTICES: Practices begin August 16th and will be four days per week. Beginning August 23rd, practices drop to three days per week for the remainder of the season. (Flag practice time is 5:00-6:30pm.)

  • Week 3:  Monday - Thursday, August 16-20 - 5:00-7:30 pm
  • Week 4: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, August 24-27 - 5:30-7:30  (Note the time change.)
  • Weeks 5 through the end of the season: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday - 5:30-7:30

CHEER COMPETITION: On Sunday, October 24, all of our cheer squads will compete (Flag & Mitey Mite squads are exhibition only) in the Palomar Conference Pop Warner Cheer Competition. This is something that the squads begin preparing for in early September. It is crucial to the success of the squad that all cheerleaders make a commitment to be at all practices. Each competing squad that places within the top 2 of their division will move on to Regional Competition (location not yet determined) in late November.  Each squad placing in the top 2 will then move on to Pop Warner National Cheer & Dance Championships that take place on the first weekend in December in Florida at the Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex.

FUNDRAISING: Fundraising to earn money for (potential) travel to competitions & each squad’s year end party is a part of cheerleading. Your coach will provide opportunities to do so at opening day as well as at home games.

PRACTICE APPAREL: All cheerleaders will wear navy shorts (Soffee and similar brands are available at Target, Kohls & Sports Authority), plain white t-shirts or tank tops and athletic style shoes. No spaghetti strap shirts, baggy shirts, street shoes, nail polish, long nails or jewelry are allowed. *Earrings are not allowed on the field. Any Cheerleader with earrings will be asked to remove them, even if the piercing is new.

REGISTRATION FEE INCLUDES:  A minimum of 9 games, one day of Cheer Camp (early August – date to be determined), pictures, cheer competition registration fees, trophies and insurance.

NEW UNIFORM COST $300 to be paid separately: New cheerleaders will need to purchase a uniform package. Returning cheerleaders can use their last year’s uniform.

Used uniforms: We will be offering some of last year’s uniforms that have been lightly worn for reduced prices (50% less). The sizes and quantity are limited.

UNIFORM FITTING:

  • Fitting Date: Date, time and place to be determined

All forms due by first day of conditioning (Monday, August 2nd):

* No Cheerleader will be allowed to practice without physical & report card.

Once squads have been established, you will be contacted by your child’s head coach. You may also continue to check our website for updates and information. Our website is www.scrippsranchpopwarner.com. We are still looking for coaches and assistant coaches, as well as student trainers. Please contact me with the position you are interested in, and I will be in touch to discuss further.  I hope you find this information helpful. I look forward to meeting all of you!
