SCRIPPS rANCH'S mALIA dANIELSKI hONORED in Kauai for Acedemic excellence

Our very own JV cheerleader, Malia Danielski, traveled with her family to the beautiful Kauai Beach Resort to be presented with the Little Scholars top honor, First Team All-American Scholar Athlete Award. This honor is only bestowed to 35 cheerleaders nationwide! Honorees were recognized for their scholastic achievements while participating in Pop Warner Football & Cheer from the WESCON Region states, including Arizona, Hawai‘i, Utah and portions of southern California and southern Nevada. WESCON Commissioner Teddy Arroyo, of Lihu‘e, said there were 473 scholar athletes who earned the distinction of national recognition for their individual scholastic achievements from a field of about 14,000 participants across the nation. Arroyo said next year’s WESCON Little Scholars Breakfast will be held in Arizona.

We are proud of Malia's prestigious accomplishment. Coaches Hope, Janelle and Michele report she is an inspiration to her teammates in the classroom and on the mat. Way to go, Malia!

Other Scripps Ranch 2022-2023 Honorees included:

8th graders: Noah Beyer (Second Team), Andrew Deilke (Honorable Mention), Elias Hernandez (Second Team), Paul Palomares (Second Team), Paige Williams (Honorable Mention), and Samuel Woodmansee (Honorable Mention)

7th graders: Anelia Laubenthal & Noah Palomares (Second Team)

ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLAR PROGRAM

Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Academic All-American status. This process begins at the association level and up through each of the eight Pop Warner regions to the national level.

The PWLS All-American Program requires a minimum 96% GPA to apply for All-American status.

After applications are processed, Pop Warner determines National First Team All-Americans (35 football, 35 cheer per grade), National Second Team All-Americans & National Honorable Mention Scholars.

ALL-AMERICAN SELECTION PROCESS:

  • All-American Scholars are scored on a 118 point scale: 100 points (85%) for the student's grades for the prior school year and 18 points (15%) for the attached Addendum sheet of activities and achievements.
  • Once the scores have been calculated, First Team All-Americans are selected. The top 35 football players and 35 cheerleaders per grade (plus ties) are selected as National First Team All-Americans.
  • Second Team All-Americans are then determined by Pop Warner based upon the number of applications that were submitted for that year.
  • Applicants who are not selected as 2nd Team All-Americans are named Honorable Mention Scholars in recognition of qualifying for this prestigious academic achievement.
